EB DELIVERS INDUSTRY’S FIRST MULTI-ANTENNA OVER-THE-AIR (OTA) TEST SOLUTION FOR LG ELECTRONICS
Oulu, Finland – EB, a developer of cutting edge embedded technology solutions for wireless and automotive industries, today announced that LG Electronics (LG), a global leader and technology innovator in mobile communications, has selected EB as the company to deliver the industry’s first multi-antenna Over-the-Air (OTA) performance testing solution for its mobile devices. LG will now be able to test full mobile device functionality and performance in realistic radio channel environments without any compromises to the performance verification.
EB’s multi-antenna OTA testing application is built around the EB Propsim F8 radio channel emulator and related channel modeling software allowing LG to test final mobile phone designs with embedded antennas and cover in place. The OTA application utilizes stateof the art geometrical radio channel models to replicate real network-like conditions in the laboratory. The EB OTA testing application enables LG to ensure the highest performance for mobile devices and therefore, further improve the end-user experience of its customers.
EB’s OTA testing application enables repeatable testing in various radio channel conditions which shortens the mobile phone development cycle and enables early market introduction of new mobile devices. “After deep technical discussions between EB and LG experts, EB was able to offer us a solution which takes our testing capability to the next level,” said Yongsang Cho, a chief research engineer of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “We are confident that multi-antenna OTA testing will enable us to further improve the quality and performance of our mobile phones asthe testing now includes the antenna effects whichare crucial in multi-antenna systems. EB’s OTA solution grants us the ability to test mobile phones in a controlled laboratory environment and bring the test scenarios to reality.” EB’s multi-antenna OTA solution enhances the development of next-generation wireless technologies. A multi-channel EB Propsim F8 emulator is an essential part of the EB’s OTA testing solution as it enables the testing of mobile phones utilizing multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) technologies. Standards like 3GPP Long Term-Evolution
(LTE) and Mobile WiMAX plan to utilize MIMO technology and multi-antenna OTA testing can offer significant improvement compared to conventional conductive cable testing, especially as it pertains to these standards.
